Mining Mayhem — IEEE Hardware Competition

Mining Mayhem is a robotics hardware competition I designed and ran, featured at two IEEE events:

  • IEEE Southeastcon 2025 — Charlotte, NC
  • IEEE Region 5 Annual Conference 2026 — Boulder, CO

The Game

Teams design and build an autonomous robot to navigate a mining-themed arena, collecting and depositing game pieces under strict size, weight, and power constraints. The game is designed to test autonomous navigation, manipulation, and robust mechanical design within a competition time limit.

My Role

As Hardware Chair for IEEE Region 5 and a member of the IEEE Southeast Conference Student Activities Committee, I was responsible for:

  • Designing the game rules, field layout, and scoring system
  • Fabricating and assembling the competition field
  • Running the competition at both events and adjudicating matches
  • Coordinating with hosting institutions and student teams across the region
